BAYSIDE TRACK & FIELD SUCCESS
Earlier this month, 30 Wondall Heights State School students proudly represented our school at the Bayside Track and Field event. Our athletes competed with great spirit and determination, achieving an 8th place finish overall on combined points and 9th place on overall percentage out of 39 schools — a fantastic effort!
A special congratulations to Fraser, Daisy and Neave who excelled in their events and will now go on to represent Wondall Heights at Metropolitan East Regional Track and Field Trials later this month. We are all cheering you on!
OUR FOCUS ON LITERACY CONTINUES
Literacy is the cornerstone of all learning in primary school, and it remains a key focus at Wondall Heights. The way we teach reading today looks different to how many of us were taught, as research into how the brain learns continues to evolve. By drawing on evidence-based practice, our staff have embraced structured literacy to ensure every child has the strongest possible foundation in reading.
Over recent years, our teachers have undertaken extensive training in this approach, which is already making a significant impact on student success. To further strengthen this work, Erin Maywald has been supporting this work as our Reading Leader. Erin works alongside teachers and students to build expertise and embed high-quality reading instruction across the school.
As principal, I am deeply passionate about continuing to lead this vital work. I have been spending time in classrooms, connecting with students, listening to them read, and celebrating their growth as confident, capable readers.
BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS
This week we enjoyed an outstanding turnout for Book Week, with students from all year levels joining in the fun. Monday’s special assemblies were lively and colourful celebrations, filled with creative costumes, big smiles, and plenty of excitement.
A special thank you goes to our wonderful parents and carers who supported the event by helping with costumes and encouraging students to take part. Many of our staff also joined in too! It was heart-warming to see the joy on the children’s faces — and I’m certain families loved seeing their little ones proudly parade their characters.
