Thank You
On behalf of our entire school staff I want to thank all of our students, families and community members for your support of Wondall Heights State School in 2020. This year has indeed been a challenge for all, but the manner in which the school community has remained united is something to be incredibly proud of.
I want to particularly thank the school staff for the way that they have managed the changing school year, with the priority remaining on student learning and wellbeing.Teacher Transfers
The end of the year sees a number of our teachers also transferring to new schools and we wish them well in 2021 and beyond. Thank you for your contributions to Wondall Heights during your time at the school.

Years 3-6 Swimming Carnival
Students in Years 3-6 will participate in their swimming carnival on Thursday 3 December. Students are to bring their togs, swim shirt, towel, swim cap and school hat. Please ensure they have sunscreen. Due to the capacity restrictions of the pool area, we can’t have both external adults and students in the pool venue, so this event is for current students only, no spectators.
End of Year Celebrations
To mark the end of the school year, classes will hold their own ‘break up day’ events on Tuesday 8 December. For this, we ask that parents arrange food suitable for your own child/ren to consume. It will not be shared food.
- Parents are to pack their own ‘party box’ from home for your child to eat throughout the day- parents have control of what their child eats.
- Tuckshop will offer pre-purchased individual party boxes for parents to order. You can order these online now!
Tuesday 8 December is free dress- students are to wear sun safe clothing and must have a broad brim hat with closed in shoes.
Gifts- whilst we appreciate end of year gifts as a generous thanks to staff, we do have departmental policies around these and staff can not accept gifts in excess of $150 or any cash/lottery items.
At this time of the year, students like to share the Christmas cheer with their friends and they are welcome to engage in this, but we ask that only cards are given out. Please do not send lollies or confectionery eg- candy canes. We have students with a range of different food/dietary allergies and requirements and the school will not be responsible for oversight of these confectionery items.
Class Arrangements in 2021
With an anticipated enrolment of 700 students next year, we will have 29 classes. These will consist of straight classes and also a 3/4 and two 5/6 multilevel classes. The teachers and leadership team have spent considerable time this term constructing classes which consider the needs of all students.
Students will be introduced to their 2021 teachers during the ‘Step Up’ session on Tuesday 8 December.
Report Cards
Year 6 Graduation
On Tuesday 8 December we will hold our Year 6 graduation for students and their two nominated guests. Unfortunately, due to capacity requirements within COVID guidelines, only two registered guests of Year 6 students can attend the ceremony to be held at Brisbane Bayside State College.
Congratulations to our graduating cohort!
Book Drop Off 2021
On Thursday 21 January between 3-4pm families are welcome to drop book packs in 2021 classes. If you are unable to make this, books can be brought to school on the first day of school.
Last Day
School will finish on Wednesday 9 December- sports uniform or formal uniform to be worn.
In the final week of the holidays, we will share an email update around any COVID restrictions which may be in place, for the start of the new school year.
Have a wonderful break with your family and loved ones. For our departing students, staff and families, thank you for being part of Wondall Heights State School and for our returning students, we look forward to seeing you in your new classes on Wednesday 27 January 2021.
From Mel Loban Head of Curriculum
Happy Holidays
As we come to the end of this academic year, it is with great pride that we look back at the many achievements of the students this year. They have worked so hard and with every changing demand made on us moving to full implementation of the Australian Curriculum and then to throw in a worldwide health pandemic. The many values that have been on display throughout the year have particularly come to the forefront as we move to the end of the year – resilience when tackling a particularly tricky problem whether it is in class or a problem between friends; courage in coping with changes; love and honesty towards all members of the school community; appreciation and happiness for each other and all the opportunities they are given within the school – which all strengthen their character and their ability to make the most of every aspect of school life.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their hard work this year. It has been a year of change and they have embraced this with goodwill and continued to provide the best education for the students.
I would also like to thank all parents and carers for their support this year. A great deal of what we do in school cannot be achieved without you and your co-operation and backing. Many thanks and we look forward to working more closely in 2021.
Finally, I wish all students who are leaving us at the end of this academic year all the very best on their journey. I know that they have all had a great start here at Wondall Heights State school and know that they will go on to achieve great things in the future.
