Welcome to Term 2
Welcome to all of our students and families to another exciting term of learning at Wondall. We hope that you all had the chance to spend some time with your loved ones over the holiday period and are refreshed for the term ahead. Term 2 is shaping up to be another busy one in the school with lots of classroom and also extra-curricular activities.
Thanks to our entire school community for your support during the lockdown at the end of Term 1.
Technology Upgrades
We are excited to have another 30 laptops join our fleet of computers in the school for students to use.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
This term we have commenced our implementation of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). PBL is focussed on the recognition of positive behaviours displayed by students supported by consistent language and explicit teaching of behaviours throughout the school. Our student recognition process is already gaining momentum and excitement from our students. Some of our budding actors have made a video of what PBL looks like in our school and you can view this on our school website or school Facebook page.
Information about PBL will be shared regularly in our newsletters but if you would like more information about PBL at any time, please contact Mrs Uhlmann our Student Wellbeing Teacher or a member of the school leadership team.
ANZAC Service
This year our students will commemorate ANZAC Day on Friday 23 April via a special video parade. ‘Lest We Forget’.
Cross Country
Our Cross Country will be held tomorrow, Thursday 22 April. Please see full information about the schedule later in the newsletter. Parents/family members are welcome to attend the event to watch however, the following MUST be followed:
- If you are sick, DO NOT ATTEND.
- Sign in via the Check In Qld App or paper copy available at key entry points. Sanitise hands at entry.
- Spectators will be required to remain in the marked out spectator areas only.
- Social distancing of 1.5m is to occur between adults.
- All instructions from school staff must be abided by.
We want to have our parents able to attend our events, however we need to work together to ensure all COVID safe principles are followed.
Download the Check In Qld App
For school functions held at school to capture attendee contact details we will be using the Check In Qld App. Being the universal Queensland Government sign in app, you will be able to start using it at venues right across Queensland. Information about the app can be found here: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/check-in-qld#_customer . Download it now in preparation for our Cross Country tomorrow!
Senior Sports
Our interschool sports program commences this Friday for Year 4-6 students. Students will be transported to their different venues via buses and under the supervision of school staff. Spectators are welcome at the different venues but must follow all sign in procedures and directions of staff at the location.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Due to the early end of Term 1, we will be rescheduling Parent-Teacher Interviews for early this term. Once a date is finalised, all families will be notified. Bookings will be via SOBS. Sessions will run for 10 minutes.
Australian Early Development Census
Playing our part to build a national picture of child health
In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.
Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.
Some teachers have also noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.
To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website:
Wondall Heights State School will be completing the census 5-14 May 2021 with our prep students only. If you have any questions, you can contact Sarah Abbot on 3906 6444 or sabbo6@eq.edu.au.

One spectator per child at the carnival. This is to make sure areas have plenty of room for spacing and viewing. Parents/Spectators will have two designated areas to witness the carnival.
One area will be to the right of the bottom gate entry point.
The second area will be to the left of the gate, past the sand pit, in front of the playground area.
Upon arrival all spectators will need to sign in using the Check in QLD COVID APP that will be displayed at spectator areas and as you approach the bottom gate.
Spectators will need to remain in one of the two identified areas until they leave. If you would like a chair or shade for your spectating area you will need to bring your own with you and maintain 1.5m spacing between other adults that arrive. Students will have their own defined area in the middle of the hill when not running and obviously be on track when running. Students will not be able to mingle and will not be allowed to enter either spectator area. If you are planning on coming to both carnivals you will need to leave and return for the 2nd carnival.
Please understand and support us with this process as this will be our first spectator carnival post the events of 2020.
Fingers crossed for clear weather!
