As this is our final newsletter for the term, we want to thank our students, staff and parents for their school engagement this term. A short lockdown didn’t slow the pace and we are now happy to be operating as ‘COVID Normal’. Thanks for your support during this period and your continued adherance to wearing of masks and social distancing on the school grounds. Term 4 will commence on Tuesday 5 October.

Appropriate Use of Social Media
Wondall Heights State School does not endorse or support students under the age of 13 accessing Social Media. Dr Michael Carr states that “they do not have the neurological maturity to manage their digital footprint”. We encourage parents to check what social media platforms your children may have access to and also the age requirements. As documented in our Student Code of Conduct, students are not permitted to take photos or videos at school and upload these photos to social media.

Cyberbullying tips: Help for parents and carers — what to do if it's your child:
- Take the time to talk to them. Be open to listening and understanding their experience of cyberbullying
- Teach them that cyberbullying is never OK
- Reassure them that they're loved
- Report the activity to the relevant social media platform. If this does not help, you can lodge a complaint via the safety website eSafety
- Support them to speak to another trusted adult or counsellor if they want to
- Advise them to avoid opening emails or responding to cyberbullies
- Respect that they may not want to limit online access as this can seem like a punishment and lead to greater social isolation
- Most importantly, reassure them they are not alone and that help is always available.
Please be active in knowing if your child is on social media, what apps they are accessing, what they are doing online and who they are interacting with!
