Arbor Day Planting
Arbor Day is traditionally a day for planting trees for shade, educating students about the importance of trees and is celebrated throughout the world. Wondall Heights State School was lucky enough to be given 107 plants from the Brisbane City Council for our Year 1 students to plant. A huge thank you to our wonderful grounds staff – Michael, Graham and Fredson – for their organisation and preparation of our Arbor Day celebrations. The students loved it!
NAIDOC Week
This week our students have engaged in NAIDOC Week recognition activities. This included a ‘Welcome to Country’ presentation from Aunty Merle, then lunch time activities including traditional indigenous games, dance, storytelling and art work. Thank you to the staff and Mrs Loban for organising this year’s events.
Solid Pathways
Last week on assembly a number of our students in Year 4-6 who participate in the Solid Pathway Indigenous STEM program were recognised for their engagement in the program. Congratulations to all participating students and thanks to Mrs Duncombe.
Gala Day
On Thursday 21/10 our Year 4-6 students will be participating in a Gala Day for Basketball.
- Year 4 will be playing at Wynnum State High School and will travel to and from the venue via bus.
- Years 5 and 6 will be playing at Brisbane Bayside Secondary College and will walk to and from the venue.
All students are required to wear full sports uniform including hat, bring their lunch sufficient for the day (no canteen facilities), water bottle and sunscreen.
Students will not be released from the venues and with return to school at the end of the day for a normal 3pm finish.
2022 Booklists
For 2022, the preffered booklist supplier is Sequel. Sequel are finalising the book lists for distribution. Families will be able to order by early December for a December delivery date or late December for a January delivery date.
There will a $7.95 delivery fee with orders being processed and dispatched as soon as possible. Only 1 delivery fee per family/address (multiple sibling orders only pay one fee per total order, not per pack) and all deliveries are fully tracked via Australia Post.
Although the booklists are generated through Sequel, families are welcome to take the list to any retail store to buy stationery and books.
By now, your child should have brought home a Stationery Inventory Form to give you an indication of the condition of retainable items (e.g. headphones) and excess materials that can be used the following year. We hope this helps to reduce the costs of ordering from the booklists moving into 2022.
