Welcome to Term 4
We welcome all of our returning and new families to Term 4. This term is 10 weeks in duration with 9 December, the last day of the school year. Term 4 always goes quickly and we have lots of exciting things for our students to engage with before the 2022 school year is over. Remember to stay up to date by checking our newsletter, Facebook page and school website.
Holiday Works
Over the holidays we had three of our buildings externally painted (I, J and E blocks) and the finalisation of our new storage shed. These newly painted buildings add ‘freshness’ to the school and help support our positive learning environments.
Swimming
The pool is looking fantastic and ready for swimming to commence in Week 3 for all year levels. Swimming will occur on your child’s normal PE day. All students are expected to participate in swimming lessons as it is part of the school curriculum. If your child has a medical condition preventing them from swimming, please ensure a note is sent along. Parents will be notified if your child doesn’t swim. Students will need to bring the following for swimming: bathers, rash shirt, swimming cap, towel (optional: googles/board shorts).
To help facilitate our swimming lessons, we need parent helpers to act as ‘supervisors’ on the waters edge. There is no requirement to get in the pool, but rather act as the adult spotters. Supervision will be covered in 3 sessions a day and we would appreciate your help. Due to the requirement to be actively moving and scanning the pool, we ask that no younger children attend with helpers. All helpers will be required to complete the Mandatory Training document and also review the risk assessment. See further information in the PE section.
iPad Classes for 2023
After consultation with the P&C and the Year 2 parent cohort, Wondall is looking to introduce the use of 1:1 iPads for Year 3 students in 2023. The introduction of iPads to Year 3 aims to:
- Empower students to take control of their learning through the flexibility to determine the best way to demonstrate their knowledge,
- Breakdown barriers through the use of assistive technology,
- Enhance and enrich learning opportunities through differentiated learning allowing for greater accessibility.
At no stage will iPads replace our teachers, instead the iPads will be integrated into teaching and learning across all areas. Students will still receive explicit instruction in the classroom along with the added advantage of the resources available through access to iPads.
Research has shown that children, who have a technological device available to them whenever required, have an educational advantage over students who have timetabled or limited access to technology. The 1:1 iPad program gives students the ability to be more independent in the learning process, giving them access to a tool that supports how they learn. Reality is, our children have never known a world without technology at their fingertips.
The program will be supported by the Student Resource Scheme (SRS). The objective of the scheme is to provide a convenient and cost-effective way for students to access the educational resources necessary to enhance their learning experience at school. Due to the impending release of a new iPad costings are still to be finalised. The approximate cost of the SRS will be $150 per year, over four years with the option to purchase an iPad from that fleet for approximately $60 at the end of the four-year period.
Student Resource Scheme 2023
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) will be discussed at the upcoming P&C meeting on 18 October. The two schemes will be our Year 3 (2023) iPad program and the 2023 Instrumental Music Program.
Save the Date!
The Performing Arts clubs (including Choir, Drama, Dance and Instrumental Music) are preparing to 'travel the globe' in a special showcase of our wonderful student's talents! As we cross the seas and explore new lands on stage, we hope to see you too.
When: After school, Thursday 1 December (Week 9). More details to come!

Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL Focus Term 4 Weeks 1 and 2 - Resilience
Over the next two weeks, students will take the time to reconnect as a class, revisit school and class expectations and revisit resilience.
Students will discuss resilience and in particular ‘helper words’ or positive self-talk. Positive self-talk or helper words give ideas to problem solve and encourage to take the next step forward. What do you say to yourself when faced with challenges? Have you shared this with your child? As a family, can you come up with some other words that can be helpful when faced with challenges?
