Increased Sun Protection
Thanks to the generous support of our entire Wondall community, our P&C have been able to fund the installation of a permanent roof which will see all of our Prep Playground covered. This is a great investment to make our youngest students play area available all year round! The works will occur over the Christmas break, ready for 2024. Thank you!
2024 Intentions
We are currently working to finalise our 2024 school structure. We ask for your assistance with this, particularly if your child (excluding Year 6) is NOT returning to Wondall in 2024. If this is the case, please contact the school admin@wondallheightsss.eq.edu.au or 3906 6444 ASAP to help us with class formations.
Right across the bayside area, local schools are experiencing a decline in student numbers. For us, we are looking at a student population based on current estimations of 600 students.
Considerable planning goes into our class construction including student and teacher allocation. To make our classes successful, we will be running several multi-age classes allowing for teachers and students in these classes to work collaboratively in teams.
Students will have the opportunity to meet their 2024 classmates and teacher during our Step Up event on the afternoon of Wednesday 6 December. Additional information will also be shared with parents for children who are in these multi-age classes to answer many common questions.
In developing our 2024 classes we have:
- Asked students to identify some friends they would like to be with
- Reviewed individual student needs based on academic, social, behavioural and learning needs
- Reflected on information provided by classroom, specialist and inclusion teachers
- Reflected on information provided by parents
Whilst we recognise that parents might have information regarding placement of their child with other children, we do not accept requests for placement with specific teachers, nor can all requests be guaranteed.
It is with great pleasure that we announce our 2024 Sport House Captains... Congratulations to Romans House- Ruben and Isla, Vikings House- Ella and Matilda, Spartans House- George and Zairah, Trojans House- Sophia and Ashlee
In the coming weeks the remaining 2024 Student Leadership positions will be determined and we look forward to announcing these with our community soon.

Students in our choirs, dance, instrumental music, drama and cultural groups will be hosting a showcase afternoon on Thursday 30/11 in the hall. We welcome parents and family members to attend.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
Our focus for the next two weeks is, 'Wondall Learners are resilient when they bounce back from challenges’. The objective is to guide students in recognising and acknowledging the hurdles they encounter. By fostering this awareness, they become better equipped to demonstrate resilience when faced with difficulties. We will explore various strategies, including positive self-talk and the use of helper words, providing our students with a toolkit to overcome challenges. Throughout the fortnight, students will not only identify these challenges but also actively showcase their ability to apply these resilience strategies. It is through these actions that Wondall Learners truly embody resilience, facing challenges head-on and emerging stronger. As always, we emphasise that Wondall learners are safe, respectful and responsible when they use resilience to bounce back from challenges.
Sounds-Write
Over the last few weeks I have been visiting classrooms to see Sounds-Write in action across our school. It has been exciting to see students across the school engaging in the lessons and applying their learning to reading and writing. We’ve even had Preps visiting the Library at lunchtimes to write letters to their teachers, using the letter sounds and spellings they have learned to write unfamiliar words!
Next week our last group of teachers for 2023 will be attending Sounds-Write training, setting us up for a flying start with synthetic phonics from Prep-Year 6 in 2024.
Book Club
Issue 8 is the final Book Club issue for 2023. To ensure that orders arrive at school before the end of Term 4, LOOP orders will be closed on Monday 20 November.
