Dougie’s Den
It has been fantastic to see our Year 3-6 students engaging in Dougie’s Den, our newest play area for students. Dougie’s Den is a space where students are able to play using their own imagination to build, create and explore different materials. Whilst the space has only been open for a few weeks, it has been great to see students from across the Year 3–6-year levels playing together and trying new things.
The E in ACE stands for ENGAGED. We encourage students to own and take responsibility for their own learning. One of the ways in which we help our students to own their own learning is by providing a Learning Wall for English and Mathematics in every classroom. Learning Walls are purposeful, co-constructed, active display references. Its purpose is to aid students in:
- knowing what they are learning and why;
- developing an understanding of how they are learning;
- monitoring their own progress and knowing what they need to do to improve;
- understanding what they need to do to achieve success.
We encourage families to talk with their children about how they use these walls to support their own learning.
P&C ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The P&C are holding their AGM on Tuesday 12 March at 6pm in the WOSHC Building. All of the elected positions- President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer are declared vacant and we welcome nominations. Our P&C does amazing things for our school community and we sincerely thank them for their dedication to our school. Even if you don’t want an elected position, any bit of help you can offer benefits your children, our students here at Wondall, so please get involved.
School Tour
Do you know a family looking to enrol at Wondall in 2025? We welcome them to attend a twilight school tour on 12 March at 4:30pm, meeting at the Office. The school leadership team look forward to meeting prospective families. Please pass this event on to your networks.
Stop Drop and Go Zone
Just a reminder that the Stop Drop and Go Zone is a 2-minute loading zone between the hours of 8-9am and 2:30-3:30pm on weekdays. Please do not park and leave your vehicles during these times for the safety of our community.
At the start of the year, we also know there is a significant increase in vehicular traffic at our school during pick up and drop off times. It is the responsibility of all road users to ensure our students are kept safe during these busy times. We therefore ask:
- That you park only in designated bays and where legally allowed to- avoid solid painted lines and keep disabled parks available for those with authorised permits.
- The Stop, Drop and Go is supervised in the afternoon. Ensure you follow the instructions from our staff and do not call your children to enter your car before directed.
- A great tip is to write your surname on the left-hand sun visor for our staff to quickly read and then send your children to your car. EG: WRIGHT
- Consider delaying by 5. The Stop, Drop and Go remains supervised until approximately 3:30pm. Let your children know you will arrive at 3:15pm rather than 3pm (peak time).
NAPLAN – Test Schedule
- The NAPLAN test window starts on Wednesday 13 March and finishes on Monday 25 March 2024. Schools are advised to schedule the tests as soon as possible within the testing window, prioritising the first week.

Just a heads up… we have some exciting Prep 2025 Transition events starting this term!
This week, we ran a Storytime & Play Session for enrolled and waitlisted children. It was a lovely morning and we got to have fun with some of our future 2025 Prep children.
We are encouraging early enrolment, so that children have plenty of opportunities to transition throughout this year. If there are any families in the Wondall Heights SS catchment who have not yet enrolled, we urge them to do so, so they receive an invite to our next Storytime & Play Session. Families who are not in-catchment are welcome to join our waitlist and will also be invited.
We are also running a Principal’s Tour of the school on Tuesday 12 March at 4:30pm, due to numerous requests for families to tour the school. Any interested families are welcome to attend! Further Prep information sessions will be held in Term 2.
If you know of any family, friends or neighbours with Prep aged children in 2025, please feel free to share this information and the attached brochure so they don’t miss these special events.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL Focus Week 6- Wondall Learners are responsible for their own actions
This fortnight students will understand what it means to acknowledge mistakes, learn from them, and make efforts to rectify them or repair relationships. Students will be able to identify strategies around managing their own behaviours and their reactions and their reactions / response to others' behaviours.
Online Third-Party Services Consent Survey
Our surveys for consent for your child to access the online third-Party services we use will be sent out via QParents this week. You will see a notification in the app once it’s available.
If you’ve signed up but haven’t downloaded the app, you can get it for free from the Apple or Google Play App stores.
Year Level Overviews
Our Year Level Term Overviews are now available on the school website https://wondallheightsss.eq.edu.au/support-and-resources/forms-and-documents/documents .
Have a read of these to find out about what your child is learning in each Learning Area this term.
As we transition to Australian Curriculum Version 9 in English and Mathematics we will be publishing Year Level Overviews each term on our school website.
Life Education
Last week our Year 3 students attended a Life Education session with Educator Fabrianne, where they learnt about Friends and Feelings, what makes a good friend and how to share feelings and resolve conflict with friends. Thank you to our P&C who paid for our students to have this wonderful opportunity.

Congratulations also to the following students who have been selected into District Representative Teams for other sports too.
DISTRICT GIRLS TOUCH FOOTBALL – Matilda W and Zairah J

Good luck to all of these students at their Regional Trials.
Hello Wondall students and families.
The Environment Club are doing our part to help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and we would love your help!
We are excited to let you know that ‘Wrapper-Free Wednesday’ is returning this week!
What does this mean? If you would like to participate, you should try not to bring any wrappers in your lunchbox e.g. no plastic wrap, no chip packets.
The best part is that anyone can join in!
Wrapper-free Wednesday will take place at first break every Wednesday, starting this week.
The Environment Club will visit each of the eating areas to record class data for students that would like to participate. Results will be tallied up and the class with the most wrapper-free lunches will receive a trophy at assembly (and some Dougie Dollars!)
We look forward to not seeing your wrappers each Wednesday - thank you!
From Mrs Horvath and the Environment Club.
