Dougie’s Den
It has been fantastic to see our Year 3-6 students engaging in Dougie’s Den, our newest play area for students. Dougie’s Den is a space where students are able to play using their own imagination to build, create and explore different materials. Dougie’s Den does need some more items to keep our busy students being creative. Parents, if you have any of the following items could you kindly bring them to the office?
P&C Executive
On behalf of our school community, we thank our P&C committee for their contributions in 2023. 2023 was a significantly successful year for our P&C which has seen the school community supported with different events, fundraisers and donations to our school. On 12 March, the Annual General Meeting was held and we thanked the outgoing executive, whilst electing positions for 2024. I am pleased to announce the 2024 elected members:
Executive Committee

Vice President: Sam Aitchison
Secretary: Matthew Rowan
Treasurer: Wendy Willis
Please support our P&C- it is led by volunteers to enrich our school environment for all children and families.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. This year Harmony Week is celebrated 18-24 March 2024.
It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
We invite our school community to wear an ORANGE shirt or accessory on Friday 22 March.
Why orange? Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Week. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL Focus Week 8- Wondall Learners are safe when they give others personal space
Wondall students are well aware of the schoolwide expectation to keep hands and feet to self, however our behaviour data is showing a spike in ‘physical aggression.’ Therefore the fortnightly focus will address how we affect others when we enter their personal space:
Wondall learners are safe when they give others personal space. The purpose of this lesson is to teach students how to navigate personal space, maintain an appropriate distance from others and be attentive to the comfort levels of others and consequently keep their hands and feet to self.
We often refer to our personal space as our ‘Bubble.’ When people get too close our bubble pops, how we react is what can influence other’s reactions too. Ask your child…What should you do if people get in your personal space?
Synthetic Phonics at Wondall
We are very excited that all bar one of our full-time classroom teachers has now trained in and is implementing Sounds Write daily in their classrooms! Our last teacher to be trained will be attending the 4-day course in the first two weeks of next term.
We have been very lucky to have four of our trained staff invited to a Q&A session with John Walker, the founder of Sounds-Write, next week. This will be a wonderful opportunity to ask questions and clarify our learning as we become expert Sounds-Write teachers, implementing structured synthetic phonics from Prep to Year 6.
Excursion and Incursion Consent
Over the next fortnight, a number of year levels will be sending out information about our excursions and incursions happening in Term 2 to support families to budget for these different activities over the term. We will be collecting consent via QParents for these activities. If you haven’t taken up the invitation for QParents as yet, and need it to be resent, please email consent@wondallheightsss.eq.edu.au with the name of the parent to be nominated as the QParents account holder, and the name of the child/ren.
Online Third-Party Services Consent Survey
Our surveys for consent for your child to access the online third-Party services we use has been sent out via QParents. You will see a notification in the app once it’s available.

Last Friday our school competed in the Schools with Pools Carnival. Congratulations to all of our swimmers and well done on retaining the trophy for another year. All schools were great sports and an enjoyable day was had by everyone. Thank you to those parents who helped out on the day. Your assistance was greatly appreciated.
Students can help the environment and our school by recycling their plastic water bottles. Starting from this week you will see the green bins around the school again. These are for recycling water bottles ONLY. Each recycled bottle is worth 10 cents to our school – and all of those 10 cents add up!
The green collection bins for plastic drink bottles are located at each eating area around the school. Please feel free to bring in containers to recycle. Alternatively, if you want to take your containers directly to a recycler and send your refund to the school – use the code C11011831
