QPARENTS
A big thank you to the families who have already signed up to QParents, we almost have all families signed up. This will be the main platform that we will be using within the school for activity consent.
QParents lets you quickly review upcoming events and information about your child. It is a secure platform with restricted access. The first time you sign up, you must do this on a PC- not a mobile device/apple product. If you need assistance, you can do this at the school office.
Later in the year, enhancements to the app will mean that consent must be received for invoices to be generated. This means that payment deadlines/return of consent will be followed. More information to come on this.
MOTHER’S DAY STALL
Our P&C are hosting the annual Mother’s Day stall onsite tomorrow 9 May. Each class will have a time slot to go and visit. Prepaid cards (purchased via Quickcliq), eftpos or cash on the day will be accepted. There are gifts of all prices including a raffle with over $1 000 worth in prize value.
Thank you to the amazing volunteers who have put this stall together to recognise the Wondall mothers and significant carers! Happy Mother’s Day for the 12th of May.

ARTS EXCELLENCE DAY
Brisbane Bayside State College would like to offer students in Years 4, 5, and 6 at Wondall Heights State School the opportunity to participate in our Arts Excellence Day on Wednesday 22 May 2024. (Please note there is a clash with the Year 5 and 6 photos being taken on this day- if students in 5-6 attend the Excellence day, they will miss their photo opportunity).
On this day, students will be able to participate in one discipline within The Arts in which they have a high interest or passion for, choosing from Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, and Instrumental Music. The program will run from 9:00am-3:30pm with parents invited to attend a showcase at 3:00pm, where participating students will be able to present what they have learned. If you would like your child to participate, please express your interest in the survey link by Monday 20 May 2024: https://forms.office.com/r/bsWUqE8KXW

Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL- WONDALL LEARNERS ARE RESPECTFUL WHEN THEY FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
Behaviour data this term is seeing an increase in classroom misbehaviours. Some students are requiring more than one reminder to follow adult instructions. At Wondall Heights, we focus on teaching the expected behaviours that we expect from the students and positively reward them when they are displaying appropriate behaviours. Our class teachers will be explicitly teaching our students this PBL focus over the next fortnight.
Our PBL Captains will be presenting a short video on Assembly next week about PBL signs around the school….stay tuned!

QParents
From next term, the Department of Education is updating the process used by schools for invoicing for school activities such as incursions and excursions. The new process will require consent to be completed via QParents for these activities before the school invoices families. This term we will be working through how this process will look for Wondall. In the meantime, we have been contacting families who have not yet registered for QParents to offer support to do this. Thank you to all of our families who have been signing up and are beginning to use QParents.
The following information is available to parents in QParents:
- Attendance details
- Upcoming events
- Report cards
- Invoices and payment history
- Consent
The benefits of using QParents includes
- Greater transparency with online access to your child’s information
- Ease of viewing and updating your child’s details including address and medical conditions
- Anytime, anywhere access on a smartphone, tablet or computer
- Access to the latest information in one centralised place
- Improved administration efficiencies and reduced printing and mail outs
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is not a competition but is a way to encourage students to develop a passion for reading. Every student who completes the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement, signed by the Premier.
Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and record books they’ve read during the reading period, between 7 May and 23 August.
To complete the challenge:
- Prep to Year 2 – must read or experience 20 books
- Year 3 and 4 – must read 20 books
- Year 5 and 6 – must read 15 books (less books than year 3 and 4 due to likelihood of being longer and more complex)
Your child should receive a recording sheet from their classroom teacher. Completed record sheets with student’s full name and class on them need to be returned to school by Friday 23 August.
For suggested books, or for more information about the Premier’s Reading Challenge, please visit:

Childrens Day has been historical and special for the Japanese people, as it dates back to the Edo period (1603-1867).
Japanese families fly Koi fish at their homes on this day.

Students can help the environment and our school by recycling their plastic water bottles. Green bins are placed around the school and these are for recycling water bottles ONLY. Each recycled bottle is worth 10 cents to our school – and all of those 10 cents add up!
The green collection bins for plastic drink bottles are located at each eating area around the school. Please feel free to bring in containers to recycle. Alternatively, if you want to take your containers directly to a recycler and send your refund to the school – use the code C11011831
