URGENT HELP NEEDED ELECTION BBQ THIS WEEKEND
Our P&C need volunteers urgently to help with the Election Day BBQ fundraiser, this Saturday 26 October. The funds raised from our last election BBQ were over $2 000! This goes directly back to supporting your children.
Some examples of what the P&C has done to support our kids this year alone:
- FREE Life Education lessons for every child (Prep-Year 6)
- Funds towards technology (free devices for students to use)
- Academic resources (reading books)
- Enrolment pack opportunities for preps
- Facility upgrades (artworks, bubblers)
- Funds towards our Outdoor Classroom (going through progression of works stages now).
- Community Connection Events- Under 8s Day, Disco!
We ask that if you have any time to give (30 minutes even) to please reach out to the P&C. The timeslot with the least amount of helpers is 10am-12pm.
WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and applaud Queensland teachers for their important role in our communities and for the positive impact they have on the lives of students.
Let’s join together to thank all Queensland Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Friday 25 October 2024.
Congratulations to Mrs Kathy Walsh and Mr Mark Wright who this year are recognised for their 15 years of service to the department.
MATHS MASTERMINDS
Thank you to Mr Flack and Mrs Cocciolone for helping to train competitors and attend the Maths Masterminds event last week at Tingalpa State School. One of our Wondall teams came 4th out of the cluster (which we are so proud of!) The questions were not the easiest to solve at all…. Many staff were scratching their heads trying to solve some of them.
Thank you to the parents, staff and students who completed our 2024 School Opinion Survey. The attached infographic shows some of our most positive results for each group and recognise the continued great learning and work environment which is Wondall! The survey results will be used to continue to improve our school as we move into 2025. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. These can be sent via email- admin@wondalheightsss.eq.edu.au by calling the office 3906 6444 or come along to a P&C meeting.
RAP
Wondall is pleased to announce that our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been endorsed and we have completed our RAP this year. We would like to thank Mr Flack and the amazing committee members (staff and parents) for their hard work in completing the actions, to help build, instil and value reconciliation within our school community.
What is a RAP?
- A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal commitment to reconciliation. It documents how your school or early learning service will strengthen relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around the school/service and with the community.
You can view our RAP at the website below or on our school website.

DAY FOR DANIEL
Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action hosted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation (DMF) to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. Held on the last Friday of October each year, it is about educating children and adults about keeping kids safe through child safety and protection initiatives. 'Wear Red and Educate' is the theme for the day.
The objectives of Day for Daniel are:
- to educate children regarding their personal safety and empower them to 'Recognise, React and Report' when they feel something is not right.
- to raise awareness about child safety and protection, and to promote a safer community for children.
- to educate and equip individuals and communities with knowledge and skills to understand child safety and protection requirements and empower them to take action.
- to honour the memory of Daniel Morcombe.
Wondall will be recognising Day for Daniel on Friday 25 October and will be inviting students and staff to wear a red shirt (hair accessories also ok) on this day. We will also be hosting a Day for Daniel Walk. Please see details in the poster, attached.
For more information, please check out https://danielmorcombe.com.au/
BEFORE SCHOOL PROCESSES REMINDER
Parents, just a reminder that at Wondall we expect all students to be lining up in the Arena. Staff have been very active and asking students to join them as this is the safe, supervised area for your child to be before the bell goes at 8:45am. Teachers are busy planning their day and preparing lessons for your child. Please support us with this process as it allows for consistency and a calm start for your child. It also means no students should be playing on equipment or roaming around the school. Help us keep your kids safe. Thank you to all for following these processes.
2025 BOOKLISTS
Please find the links to the 2025 Booklists, below. You are welcome to take the list to your preferred provider. Many providers will shop and package the booklist for you. This year, we are registering the booklists with Officeworks, for your convenience. Please see next newsletter for further information on how to access this service.
2025 Booklists are STARTER BOOKLISTS only. If additional items are required throughout the school year due to loss or consumption, your child’s class teacher will provide you with a replacement list.
Please note:
- In providing school-wide accessibility to iPads and laptops, at no cost to parents, we are using programs that assist students with their accessibility to learning. One of the features we are using is the speech to text and recording facilities of the devices. For optimised potential, we are asking families to provide the child/ren with a decent set of wired headphones with a boom microphone and conventional 5 mm jack. Please see the picture provided on the booklist for an example of what is required.
- To accommodate for handwriting and synthetic phonics, you may notice an increase in whiteboard markers, as students increasingly use their whiteboards for these learning activities.
- We have added extra books to accommodate for specialist lessons.
Prior to the end of the 2024 school year, your child will bring home a Stationery Inventory Form to give you an indication of items that can be reused in 2025.
