Principal's Chat
A Warm Welcome and a Wonderful Start
From the Principal – Mr Jonas Shantz
I’d like to sincerely thank the Wondall Heights State School community for the incredibly warm welcome I’ve received in my first week. It’s been a pleasure meeting students, staff, and families, and I already feel a strong sense of pride in joining a school with such a positive culture and community spirit.
Over the past week, I’ve spent time visiting classrooms, chatting with students in the playground, and beginning conversations with staff about the great work already underway. What has stood out most is the sense of connection and commitment across the school — a clear reflection of the values that underpin Wondall.
Feedback is an important part of how we continue to grow as a school, and I believe the way we give and receive feedback makes a real difference. I’ll always approach conversations with openness and a genuine commitment to working together.
If you see me around the school grounds, I genuinely welcome a conversation. Whether it’s a quick hello or something more, please feel free to come up and have a chat — I’m keen to connect and hear your perspectives.
I’d also like to share the Department of Education’s new Communicating with your child’s school framework. This resource outlines how we can work together to build strong, respectful relationships between families and schools. It’s designed to support clear and constructive communication that helps us deliver the best outcomes for your child(ren) and our students.
Thank you again for the warm welcome. I look forward to the term ahead and all that we will achieve together.
Warm regards,
Jonas Shantz

ATTENDANCE
At Wondall Heights State School we know students need to attend school regularly to achieve success in engagement and learning. Regular non-attendance has a significant impact on a student’s academic achievement, as well as their ability to make and sustain relationships with their peers.
School staff are required to monitor attendance and punctuality. School absenteeism is monitored closely and regular contact will be made if high levels of absenteeism are detected or whereby patterns are detected (e.g. siblings having identical absences or regular pattern in days being absent).
As always, if there is anything the school can do to support you getting your children to school, please let us know.
REPORTING PROCESS
Semester One reports will be emailed home to parents on Wednesday 25 June. This semester you will receive an overview of your child’s learning in class for English and Mathematics and a personalised goal in those subjects.
We have also updated our Behaviour and Effort rubric which has been uploaded to our website- curriculum folder. Behaviour refers to the individual behaviours demonstrated by your child aligned to our school expectations of Safe, Respectful and Responsible. Effort, refers to their self-application to learning tasks.
CARPARK SAFETY
To help ensure the safety of all of our community members we ask that pedestrians DO NOT cut through the school carparks, particularly the two carparks controlled by the boom gates. Please enter our school grounds via the designated pedestrian gates along Wondall Road.
A reminder also that the top carpark (near the lights) is primarily a staff carpark. Parents are asked not to use this carpark between 7:30am-3:30pm to drop off students to WOSHC and not to park in reserved Administration carparks. A reminder also that on Wednesday afternoons, teachers have a staff meeting that finishes at 4:15pm. It has been noted at the P&C Meeting that the top carpark is particularly busy around this time as staff are trying to leave. Parents are asked to be extra vigilant at this time.
