Welcome back to Term 3!
I trust everyone had a relaxing and rejuvenating break.
There’s certainly a lot of illness going around, and we’ve noticed it at school. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home in line with the Time Out guidelines—this helps keep everyone healthy. At school, we’re encouraging extra handwashing, the use of hand sanitiser, and regular classroom cleaning to support student wellbeing.
Term 2 was a big one! I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Sarah Abbott and the entire staff team who rallied together in the final weeks to ensure everything came together smoothly. We wrapped up the term with Report Cards going home, NAIDOC celebrations, interschool sport, Year 5 and Year 6 camps, and all the usual end-of-term activities. We also enjoyed a fantastic Athletics Carnival and assembly where we celebrated our sporting achievements—thank you to Mrs Butterworth for all the organisation that made the day such a success!
By now, you should have had a chance to review your child’s report card. Identifying improvement goals in English and Mathematics and discussing them with your child helps to align school and home efforts towards a shared goal of progress and achievement.
NAPLAN results were also sent home last week. It's a good opportunity to reflect—how do your child’s NAPLAN results compare to their report card?
There’s much to celebrate in Semester 1 regarding student achievement and attendance. The table below shows the percentage of students achieving a C or higher in English and Mathematics, as well as those achieving a B or higher. This tells us we’re tracking well, while also highlighting areas for growth—particularly in embedding Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum and continuing our Reading Improvement agenda.

SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY
Wondall Heights State School is an amazing school, with great students, staff, parents and community! We are proud of our school and the progress we continue to make in enriching the learning opportunities for our students, your children. As a means to collect feedback data on our school in a number of areas, each year, all families, school staff and students in Years 5&6 will be invited to participate in the annual suite of School Opinion Surveys.
The suite of School Opinion Surveys is undertaken each year by the Department of Education to obtain opinions about our school from families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11). The surveys will help identify what we are doing well, and understand where we can improve. The survey invitation will be emailed during the week beginning 21 July and is titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025. The survey opens on 28 July and closes on 22 August.
Each school family will receive one email invitation from the Department of Education to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey. The survey is anonymous, and the results are reported in ways that an individual’s response can be identified by the school.
Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to complete the survey. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with an internet connection.
For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY (NCCD)
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
· year of schooling
· category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
· level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
· formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
· consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
· develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au) or in the attached fact sheet.

NEWS FROM 3/4C
Positive Behaviour For Learning
PBL- RESET AND RECONNECT
Throughout Week 1 and 2, our focus across the school has been on "Reset and Reconnect"—an important time to revisit routines, rules, and expectations to set each class up for success in the term ahead. Even if expectations have been previously taught, it’s essential that we continue to reinforce them. This includes how we line up, where and how we eat lunch, and how we transition between spaces. With some updates to eating areas, staff will be using school-wide presentations to support these discussions and routines. Re-establishing these practices helps ensure a smooth, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students.
BOOK WEEK
Term 3 always brings with it the excitement of Book Week! This term, CBCA Book Week is Week 6 from 16-23 August. It’s the 80th anniversary of CBCA’s Book Week celebrating Australian literature for children. The theme this year is ‘Book an Adventure’. At Wondall we’ll be celebrating with a Library display of the short-listed titles contributed to by each class, and our Book Week Dress Up to be held on Monday 18 August. We will start this day with a short costume parade for our Years P-2 and Years 3-6.
