Dance Team 2021- Selection Process and FAQ’s

How can my child join the Dance Team?

For 2021, the 2020 Dance Team students are automatically invited to continue.  The students from Years 3, 4 and 5 that achieved an ‘A’ for the dance ‘performance’ criteria in 2020, have also been invited to join.

As Dance Team is an extra-curricular offering, provided to students by staff volunteering their time and expertise, the first round of position offerings is presented to students who achieved an ‘A’ grade for the performance strand in Dance the year prior.

What year levels is the Dance Team for?

Dance Team is offered to eligible students in Years 4-6.

How many students can be in Dance Team?

The number of students invited to participate in the Dance Teams will vary each year, based on:

  • the number of volunteer teachers/staff available to supervise and coordinate a team
  • a review of student numbers and academic results- ‘A’ for performance is the current acceptance grade. If numbers of students accepting a position at the ‘A’ level are low, an audition process for the ‘B’ performance students may occur.

Can my child get invited into the Dance Team if they did not make it in Year 4?

Yes!  We will be looking at the results on a year to year basis.  As per the information above, positions are offered each year to eligible students.

What if my child is hurt during a rehearsal?

Please note that the Department of Education does not have personal accident insurance cover for children/students. If your child is injured as a result of an accident or incident while participating in the activity, all costs associated with the injury, including medical costs are the responsibility of the parent/carer. Some incidental medical costs may be covered by Medicare. If you have private health insurance, some costs may also be covered by your provider. Any other costs must be covered by parents/carers. It is up to all parents/carers to decide what types and what level of private insurance they wish to arrange to cover their child. Please take this into consideration in deciding whether or not to allow your child to participate in this activity.

If your child is injured, they will still need to attend rehearsals as to not miss out on choreography.

What is the commitment?

Students are expected to attend all lunchtime practises.

If a student is repeatedly (3 times) absent from Dance Team practise, their position may be offered to another eligible student.

There are no outside of school hour rehearsals current scheduled.

What is the cost in 2021?

There is no cost for participation in 2021. Staff will be conducting team practises during allocated school hours and costumes from previous years will be utilised.
