Swimming Permission/Swimming Term 1

Swimming permission forms will be sent home for completion and will need to be returned by Week 5. Preps do not swim in Term 1. All Year 1-6 students start swimming in Week 6 of this term. Swim permissions need to be returned to the class teacher or the office in order to participate. Swimming is starting later to allow our pool refurbishment to conclude and will run until the end of term 1.

For swimming students require the following items:

Togs –    BOYS: Traditional, Half Cut or Jammer style tight fitting

(No Board Shorts as we are not using surfboards or body boards.)

GIRLS: One piece from shoulder to bottom.

(No 2 piece please.)

Sun shirts – Long or short sleeve as desired. This can also be built into the togs.

Swimming Cap – Latex or Silicone to cover all hair on head. No cap, no swim.

Towel – To get dry afterwards

Spare underwear – Because an extra pair is always needed.

Bag – To put all items in.

Water Bottle – Because we sweat even though we don’t feel it in the pool water.

Optional items include:

Goggles – That fit swimmers face. No snorkels required.

Ear plugs or Ear bands – If using, student must be able to place in and/or over ears themselves.

Sunscreen – If students have own sunscreen that they would like to reapply before and/or after.

Cross Country Carnivals

Years 4-6 will have their Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 17/02/2022 in Week 4 this term. Due to current government covid plans unfortunately we can not have spectators at this event. Students can wear house uniform on this day and will complete one race in their age group and gender. There will be water available to them on course but will be encouraged to bring their hat and water bottle with them to the oval for use before and after their races.

Years 3-Prep Cross Country Carnivals have been postponed until later in the year.

Schools with Pools Carnival

At this stage this carnival will go ahead as it is scheduled beyond the finish date of the current government covid plan. Students are selected on the basis of their swimming at school carnivals last year in age groups and genders. Selected students will be notified by the end of Week 4. Notes will come home with selected students.

District Swimming

Unfortunately, the Bayside District Swimming Trials have been cancelled due to some schools not having enough time to prepare swimmers for the event. High schools generally have their carnivals in Week 1 or 2 of the year. As this hasn’t occurred in 2022, the executive of the district had to cancel as opposed to postpone. The Metropolitan East swimming trials are still proceeding and students who have achieved qualifying times can paper nominate to represent Bayside at the trials. Students who have achieved times will be notified by Mr. Bloxsom by the end of week 3.
