Positive Behaviour for Learning
PBL Focus Weeks 3 and 4 – Respect
Our PBL focus for Weeks 3 and 4 is, ‘Wondall Learners are kind and respectful’ The objective of this focus is to increase respect amongst students and staff by showing kindness through their words and actions, and to understand the importance of being kind.
Kindness is defined as a type of behaviour marked by acts of generosity, consideration, or concern for others, without expecting praise or reward. Students discussed what kindness means to them. What does kindness look like and sound like? What does kindness NOT look like and sound like? They participated in whole class discussions about occasions when kindness was shown towards them or when they were kind to others. What does the word “respect” mean? Why is it important to show kindness at school?
Junior school students watched a video called ‘Colour your World with kindness’, while senior school students learned about the ripple effect of kindness though a video called ‘Kindness Boomerang’.
Students are being encouraged to participate in random acts of kindness over the next fortnight. Teachers will be giving out Dougie dollars to those demonstrating kindness through the use of polite, kind words and actions.
