Positive Behaviour for Learning

PBL Focus Term 2 Weeks 7 and 8 – Respectful

Wondall learners respect others’ learning.

Following on from our previous focus of, ’Wondall Learners are Responsible for their own learning’, our PBL focus for week 7 and 8 is ‘Wondall Learners RESPECT others’ learning’. The objective of this focus is to teach the importance of respecting the right of others to learn in the classroom, as well as to gain an understanding of how to manage one’s self in order to allow maximum learning for all within the classroom context.

Students participated in whole class discussions, brainstorms and mind mapping activities.

Discussion points included:

  • What is the teacher’s job? (prepare and deliver lessons, teach…)
  • What is a student’s job? (participate, learn, allow others to learn…)
  • WHY it is important to respect others right to learn within our classrooms?
  • What might our bodies look like and feel like when we are respecting the learning of others?
  • When our bodies are not in the green zone what strategies can we use to avoid unintentionally interrupting the learning for others?

Students created a poster displaying the ways in which they can respect the learning of others, such as keeping hands and feet to self, listening carefully to others, taking turns, using polite and kind words, putting hands up before speaking, encouraging others, allowing the teacher to teach, helping classmates, being a role-model, following teacher instructions. Posters are being displayed in the classroom and will be referred to during the fortnight.

When students display expected behaviour they receive DOUBLE DOUGIES as an incentive.
