Synthetic Phonics and Reading Update

This week our second group of P-2 and Inclusion teachers are attending Sounds-Write training from Monday – Thursday. All of our teachers attending this professional learning have found it of great benefit for their own development as teachers of reading and are excited to implement it in their classrooms.

We are all very excited to have our teachers from Years 3-6 also being included in this professional learning opportunity over coming months and look forward to the positive impacts on our students’ learning from Prep right through to Year 6.

This week I started working with our wonderful Teacher Aides to learn about synthetic phonics and how they can support our teachers and students in using synthetic phonics to learn to read and write. Our dedicated team are appreciative of every opportunity to better support our students and are using their knowledge already to work with students.

Library News

This week we have followed up with overdue books outstanding from Term 1 and have sent home invoices for their replacement. It is our preferred option to have the books returned to school so that other students may borrow them. If you have received an invoice for replacement, but have located the loan item, please return it to the Office, and we will cancel the invoice. When invoices have been paid or the books returned, those students will be able to borrow again.

Instrumental Music Performance

Our Senior and Junior Bands have commenced regular rehearsals and will be presenting a performance on Thursday 15 June from 3:15-4:00pm in our Hall. Families are welcome to attend this event. This is an excellent opportunity for families of Year 3 students considering expressing an interest in joining our Instrumental Music program for Year 4 beginners in 2024 to come along and see what they could learn in our program.
