Well Done P&C

A huge well done and thank you to our community body and P&C for the recent conduct of the Bake and BBQ stall. It was great to see so many donated tasty treats and BBQ items. Thanks to all who made items for, or volunteered at the stall, with a whopping $2800 raised for our school!

Swimming

swimming.png

Swimming has kicked off this week. Please ensure that your child has all of the required items named (swim shirt, bathers, towel, swim cap). To increase visibility in the water, all students will be given a red cap to put over their swim caps. As this is the first time for many of our swimmers, please spend some time having them practise getting changed in and out of the their togs to speed up the after swim process.

Pool volunteers are still being sought, if you can help (please!), there is a session sign-up sheet in the front office foyer, or call/email the office (3906 6444 or admin@wondallheightsss.eq.edu.au) or Mr Bloxsom (sblox5@eq.edu.au ). Thanks to those who have already generously offered their time.

2024 Booklists

Please find the links to the 2024 Booklists, below. You are welcome to take the list to your preferred provider. Many providers will shop and package the booklist for you. 2024 Booklists are STARTER BOOKLISTS only. If additional items are required throughout the school year due to loss or consumption, your child’s class teacher will provide you with a replacement list.

Please note:

We have removed handwriting textbooks and added extra writing books / scrapbooks to accommodate for Handwriting and Synthetic Phonics. You may also notice an increase in whiteboard markers, as students increasingly use their whiteboards for these learning activities.

  • We have added extra books to accommodate for specialist lessons.
  • Prior to the end of the 2023 school year, your child will bring home a Stationery Inventory Form to give you an indication of the condition of retainable items (e.g. headphones) and excess materials that can be used in 2024.
  • Brands listed are an example, for your reference. The school accepts alternative similar brands.
  • Please ensure exercise books have the correct ruling and are suited for the year level required.
  • ALL ITEMS are to be labelled and brought to school on the first day of the 2024 school year.

2024 Student Leadership Applications

2024 Student Leadership Process has progressed to the next stage. All eligible students have created a poster and it has been displayed in the Arena for the entire school to view. The next step is School Captain interviews. These will take place on Thursday and Friday this week and will be held with Mr Wright, Mrs Cocciolone and Mr Flack. After the interview, successful students will be asked to create and present a short 2-minute speech during Week 4, to present to Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Parents are welcome to attend. More information regarding the speeches to come out later in the week.

Day for Daniel

Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action hosted by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation (DMF) to raise awareness of child safety, protection and harm prevention. Held on the last Friday of October each year, it is about educating children and adults about keeping kids safe through child safety and protection initiatives. 'Wear Red and Educate' is the theme for the day.

The objectives of Day for Daniel are:

  • to educate children regarding their personal safety and empower them to 'Recognise, React and Report' when they feel something is not right.
  • to raise awareness about child safety and protection, and to promote a safer community for children.
  • to educate and equip individuals and communities with knowledge and skills to understand child safety and protection requirements and empower them to take action.
  • to honour the memory of Daniel Morcombe.

Wondall will be recognising Day for Daniel on Friday 27 October and will be inviting students and staff to wear a red shirt (hair accessories also ok) on this day. We will also be hosting a Day for Daniel Walk as part of our Active School Travel program. Please see details in the poster, attached.
