Eco Marines

2024 Eco Marine Ambassador Training Day

On Thursday of Week 3 this term, we were lucky to be able to attend the Eco Marine Ambassador Training Day at Tangalooma. We travelled by ferry to Moreton Island and began the day with a group photo with students and teachers from all of the other Eco Marine Schools followed by a sandcastle competition.

We participated in activity rotations that included:

  • Urban Utilities - we learnt about how precious water is used as a resource and how our water is delivered to our homes, school and businesses ready to drink.
  • Port of Brisbane – we found out what is being done to increase sustainability in the Port area.
  • Food waste – a group called ‘Saveful’ told us many facts about food waste including the fact that the single most powerful thing we can do to save the planet is to reduce the amount of food we waste.
  • Brisbane City Council – we talked about waste management and played a rubbish relay race game where we had to sort things into their correct bins.

After lunch we spent time working on our school action plan where we set some goals for things that we want to achieve this year.

After dinner we had a talk about how to feed the dolphins and which dolphins would be visiting. Then we headed down to the beach and were first in line to feed Comet! It was an amazing experience and we had a fantastic day!
