Cross Country
Parent Teacher Interviews
Interviews will be held tonight in the Hall. Sessions will run for 10 minutes with bells to signal the change. Please be considerate of the time allocation you have and follow all signage in the Hall area. Desks will have classes displayed for teachers.
Parade
This term we are resuming our face to face parades for students. Over the last year, with the requirements around COVID, face to face parades were suspended. Now, we are excited to re-commence our parades for students. Due to capacity requirements of the Hall space, parades will remain for school students and staff only. Throughout the year, we do look forward to expanding these to parents when the opportunity presents. Our first few weeks of parades will focus on establishing parade routines and audience behaviours.
Lost Property
In the Arena area we currently have lost property on display. These will remain in place until Thursday afternoon, any items not claimed or without a name visible will be disposed.
School Banking
School banking services will cease to be offered in our school and all Queensland state schools from 31 July 2021. In line with several other states and territories, the Department of Education’s decision is in response to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission’s (ASIC) Review of School Banking Programs report in December 2020. Students will be able to maintain their banking relationship directly with their bank. Consumer and financial literacy will continue to be delivered to students as part of the Prep to Year 10 Australian Curriculum, including Moneysmart and the BuySmart competition.
Prep Enrolments 2022
Notice of Intention to Attend Wondall Heights State School in 2022
We are currently looking at Wondall Heights State School’s planning needs for the 2022 school year. Part of this planning is considering the number of students we will have enrolled in the school. If your child is of Prep age for the 2022 school year and you are considering enrolment at Wondall Heights State School, can you please let us know your intentions by contacting the school. This is not binding and the catchment area and enrolment requirements still apply. The enrolment process will begin in Term 3 and is, outlined below.
Enrolment Process
In catchment students can currently enrol at the office during office opening hours.
Out-of-catchment students can join the waiting list, please contact the office.
A decision will be made for out-of-catchment enrolments in early Term 3, you will be invited to attend the Prep Enrolment Sessions in September if you are successful in securing a place at Wondall Heights State School.
Prep Enrolment Sessions will consist of a group interview where parents will be presented information and asked to fill in questionnaires whilst their children interact with our teachers, in a group setting. The new format is designed to create a sense of community and for children and families to meet and establish connections in preparation for 2022. This format will also allow our staff to spend more time getting to know your children and to observe their interactions with other children. More information about this process will be provided to families next term when booking an interview.
Please share this information with family and friends living in the catchment area!
Save the Date – Prep 2021 Information Session 1
Tuesday 8 June 5:30-6:30pm in the Performing Arts Hall
Everyone is invited to attend the information session on Tuesday 8 June, whether in catchment or out-of-catchment. Enrolment forms will not be handed out at this session, they will need to be collected from the office during school opening hours to check for enrolment requirements.
Australian Early Developmental Census (AEDC)
In early 2021, our school, along with thousands of others across the country will begin preparations for the fifth Australian Early Development Census (AEDC).
The AEDC gives us a national picture of the development, health and wellbeing of children in their first year of full-time school. Since 2009, the census results have helped communities, schools and governments plan services and develop better policies to target support for children and families.
Children don’t miss any class time, and parents/carers don’t need to supply schools with any new information for the census. The AEDC gives us data at a school and community level - it isn’t an assessment of individual children.
Some teachers have also noticed that completing the assessments made them more aware of the needs of individual children and the class as a whole and that the census results are useful in planning for transitions to Year 1 and developing class programs.
Participation in the AEDC is voluntary. Parents/carers don’t need to take any action unless they choose not to include their children in the census.
To find out more about the census and how communities are using the data to help children and families visit the AEDC website: www.aedc.gov.au.
Wondall Heights State School will be completing the census 5-14 May 2021. If you have any questions, you can contact Sarah Abbot on 3906 6444 or sabbo6@eq.edu.au.
NAPLAN Online
Wondall Heights State School will commence NAPLAN Online assessments on Tuesday, 11th May and conclude testing on Friday, 14th May. If you do not wish your child to participate in NAPLAN please contact the office by Friday 7th May 2021.

This fortnight our Wondall learners are focusing on RESPECT, specifically 'Respecting others and their belongings by keeping hands and feet to self'. Each student has participated in a classroom lesson, with the aim to increase respect among peers and strategies around self -management. 2021 CROSS COUNTRY WRAP
Thankyou to all staff that helped to make this carnival happen. We are a lucky school that offers carnivals right down to our Prep students and that is due to the many hands that accept a role often after a brief explanation and fulfil it to the best of their ability. It also is down to the ambition to make it happen so that our students experience moments to remember from their early school years building resilience, character and teamwork along the way.

Our top three students in 10s, 11s and 12s have continued training to represent Wondall at the Bayside District Cross Country Carnival. I look forward to reporting on their results after that carnival as well. All the best to those students representing our school on May 6.
INTERSCHOOL SPORT
A reminder for spectators to please ask our staff when you arrive at sport venues about checking in and spectator areas. We need to still contact trace and social distance at this stage and it is very important for our competitions to continue. Without this process, we would have to implement no spectators or cancel the competitions. Thank you for understanding and your continued support of our staff with this would be greatly appreciated.
As for draws all sports are very difficult to comprehend. This is why we don’t post them. Draws tend to update from time to time and it can get rather confusing. All sports run from 12.20 – 2.40pm at the various venues. If spectating aim for those times. Do not call the office admin to find out game times as they will only be able to mention the above. Teaching staff will do their best to mention game times to the students throughout the week on the basis of draw updates and students can relay this home.
Venues:
Netball: Gumdale State School (Enter via Formosa Rd path)
Volleyball: Manly West State School (Enter via Greta St)
Rugby League: Kitchener Park, Stradbroke Ave – Scan QR code at venue to check in and out
Boys Soccer: Iona College, North Rd
Girls Soccer: At our school senior oval, (Enter via Bottom Carpark near Tennis/Netball courts) – Scan our QR code to check in.
Students must travel back and be released from school by their teachers. If your student has an important need to leave with you as a spectator from venue i.e. appointment etc. this requires admin approval, at latest, the day before in the form of a written, signed note from the adult who will be taking the student from the venue. This will appear as an early departure with the reason noted in attendance records.
