Year 6 High School Transition
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Our focus for the next two weeks is 'Wondall Learners are safe when they keep their hands and feet to self,' aiming to enhance safety and reduce 'Physical misconduct' behaviours school-wide. During this fortnight, students will delve into understanding triggers and effective coping strategies for challenging situations, emphasising the importance of managing behaviour in moments of anger or frustration. Parents can anticipate an increased awareness of safety, with a focus on not using hands and feet to hurt others. Additionally, students will explore the "Zone of Regulation" (ZOR) concept, with practical strategies for behaviour regulation. In the classroom, students will actively participate in a teacher-led discussion on safety, emphasising the avoidance of physical roughness or aggression. They will explore emotional management, discuss 'Flipping the Lid' within the ZOR concept, and engage in activities to prevent rough play.
Phonics and Sounds-Write at Wondall
We continue to see the enthusiasm of our teachers embedding a synthetic phonics approach following their 4-day training in Sounds-Write. We now have teachers in every year level trained, with our final group for the year being trained in Week 9 of this term. This will leave a small group of our staff to be trained in early Term 1, 2024. Any teachers who have not yet been trained in Sounds-Write are being supported by our Pedagogical Coach, Mr Flack, to ensure that all classes are able to access learning using a phonics-based approach and engage in learning about the morphology and etymology of words in the English language.
Book Fair
Thank you to our wonderful Wondall community for their support with our Book Fair this term! Our Library has earned over $2000 to spend on new books for hosting such a successful Book Fair. Both Book Fair and Book Club orders have arrived this week and have been placed in class teachers’ pigeonholes for distribution.
