Students arriving between 8.15 and 8.25 should go directly to the Administration building and sit quietly outside the staffroom. At 8.25am, all students go to the Arena where a staff member will supervise them until 8.40 when students will be released to go to the bathroom and get a drink before starting school. No students are permitted to enter classrooms prior to this time or play on playground equipment in the mornings.
Due to continuing COVID-19 restrictions it is requested that parents of Prep and Year 1 students bring their students to the arena and leave the school grounds as soon as possible. All others students are to be dropped off at the school gates.
In the afternoon, parents are also reminded that gathering around the school is not allowed. Prep and Year 1 school students may be collected from their classroom but we request that you spend a minimum amount of time on the school grounds whilst maintaining your 1.5m from others.

YEARS 3-6 RUNNING CARNIVAL AND ATHLETICS AGE CHAMPIONS
On Friday afternoon at the end of Week 3 students in Years 3 – 6 competed in running events. Students in 400m (Yr 3) and 800m (Yrs 4-6) received ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for those races on the day. Around these events were multiple races of 80m (Yr 3) and 100m (Yrs 4-6). From these races times were compared to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd on time. These ribbons were given to students who placed in these events this week. Results from the running events, combined with the field events completed in Term 3 Athletics units allowed for 2020 Champions to be determined. Congratulations to:
Champions will receive their medals and Runners Up ribbons as part of internal assembly Monday Week 6.
OVERALL SENIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONS FOR 2020 WERE THE TROJANS.
YEARS P-2 JUMPS/RUNS CARNIVAL

YEARS 4-6 INTRASCHOOL SPORT
On Friday Week 4 we recommenced Intra-school Sport in afternoons for Years 4 – 6. Students practise drills and skills for two weeks then commence fixtures against one another finishing with finals in Week 7. No boots are to be worn. There is no parent attendance. Students can wear normal sports or house uniform attire.
YEARS 3-6 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
On Thursday Week 9 Years 3-6 will compete in our school swimming carnival. Year 3 and Year 4 (9 years) will swim 25m Age Champion and Non-Age Champion events. Years 4-6 (10, 11, 12 year olds) will swim 50m for Age Champion events and 25m for Non-Age Champion events. Students will swim qualifying times in the final swim sessions in class this term. Once finalised Mr. Bloxsom will place names of students in Age Champion races on an A-Frame in the Arena for students to see during morning procedure prior to the carnival. There is no parent attendance at this carnival as there will be no space with the extra grade.
SCHOOL SWIMMING
In order to make the most of swim time please support your child in their independence in getting dressed. Please be advised that spare gear is not always available and should your child forget an item it may mean they miss their swim.

Options for dealing with children’s behaviour
Many problems with children can be avoided completely if parents remember four
basic ideas:
1. Give children positive feedback when they do the right thing.
2. Encourage children to share their experiences with you.
3. Create lots of opportunities for children to be involved with interesting and
engaging activities.
4. Show a genuine interest in what they are doing.
There is a wide range of options for dealing with children’s behaviour. Here are
some general principles on dealing with misbehaviour in children. If you follow these
general ideas, many headaches over children’s behaviour can be avoided.
- Do set limits (… “speak politely without swearing”; “ride only up to the sign
then come back”; FIRST you need to….THEN you will do your preferred
activity). - Do praise your child for behaving appropriately (…”that’s good setting the
table”; “thank you for helping”). - Do respond to misbehaviour immediately, consistently and decisively.
- Do respond to misbehaviour by describing what the child has done wrong
(…”you ran over Johnny’s leg with your bike”). - Do respond to misbehaviour by telling the child what would have been more
acceptable (….”next time use your words to tell your sister that she hurt you.
Pushing her is off limits.”) - Do back up your instructions or reasonable requests by using natural or
logical consequences, quiet time or time out (… “you didn’t put the rubbish
out like I asked, you will miss out on 5 mins TV”). - Do remain calm when speaking to a child who is upset or who has
misbehaved. - Do speak calmly but firmly to your child when she misbehaves.
- Do act quickly.
- Do deal with the problem yourself rather than threatening with someone
else’s action. - Do try to prevent problems by ensuring that your child has plenty of
interesting and engaging things to do. - Do discuss rules with your child and give child a chance to be involved in
deciding on family rules. - Do expect reasonable behaviour from your child, not perfection.
(from Every Parent - A positive approach to children’s behaviour by Matthew Sanders).

Parking
As you are aware, child safety and illegal parking around school zones remains a concern for parents, children, local residents and schools alike.
Parking spaces during pick up and set down times are at a premium and subsequently, competition for these spaces can lead to poor driver behaviour and potentially dangerous parking practices.
We would like to take this opportunity to encourage our parents, guardians and visitors to our school to visit Council's website at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au and search parking rules to learn more about parking in Brisbane.
