Prep 2021 Information Session 1
Everyone is invited to attend the information session for 2022 Prep on Tuesday 8 June 5:30pm-6:30pm in the Performing Arts Hall, whether in catchment or out-of-catchment. Enrolment forms will not be handed out at this session, they will need to be collected from the office during school opening hours to check for enrolment requirements
Semester One Reports
Each semester the school provides families with a written report on your child’s academic, behaviour and effort progress. These reports will compliment the information you would have received at the recent parent teacher interviews and identify areas of success for your child and also future goals. The reports are sent electronically, so please ensure that you have provided the office with the most up to date email address so they reach you. Reports are scheduled to be emailed on 23 June 2021.
It is important to note that a ‘C’ grade on a report is a good thing! A ‘C’ means that your child is working at the appropriate standard for their year level.
Under 8’s Day
We are holding our Under Eights Celebration on 24 June for our Prep-Year 2 students. More information will be released in weeks to come, and activities updated, closer to the event.
If parents hold any special skills or can offer an activity for the celebration, please contact P-2 Deputy Principal, Sarah Abbot on sabbo6@eq.edu.au . Alternatively, we are looking for donations of the following items: ribbons, scraps of material, craft materials, paper bags, new & unused bottles of shaving cream. These items can be left at the office, with thanks!

Positive Behaviour for Learning
Over the last fortnight our Wondall learners have been focusing on being RESPECTFUL by responding to adult instructions at school immediately. They have learned how being respectful and following instructions optimises their learning and creates a positive school environment. Dougie Stamp charts have rapidly been getting filled as our learners have been demonstrating the skill of respect.
Our next fortnights focus will be: Wondall Learners are responsible for their own learning. This focus aims to arm students with tools and strategies when faced with a challenging task in the classroom. Students will be explicitly taught useful skills which they can put into practise during the upcoming assessment period.
Next Monday, 24.5, is our first Dougie Celebration. Students who have achieved 50 Dougie stamps over the last 5 weeks will be invited to attend the exciting celebration. The activity is a surprise so many of our learners are awaiting the day with great anticipation! Please check in with your child to find out how they are tracking towards achieving their invitation. If your child does not quite qualify for this celebration session, your child's class teacher will be in touch to inform you. Non-attendees will be supervised in a classroom and will participate in a programme of instruction. This is by no means a punishment, and they will have the opportunity to attend the next celebration day, by continuing to earn stamps on their current stamp charts.
We can't wait to celebrate the huge effort that the Wondall Learners have been making over the term so far!

National Road Safety Week
Every year, more than 1200 people are killed and 44,000 seriously injured on Australian Roads. National Road Safety Week honours those we have lost and pledges to make the roads safer for everyone.
There are a number of ways we can recognise and raise awareness of Road Safety on our roads if your school wishes to participate.
For more information about Yellow Ribbon and Sarah’s story go to: https://www.sarahgroup.org/sarahs-story
Daily Themes - For each day during National Road Safety Week there is a daily theme which focuses on specific Road Safety message.
Sunday 16
Remember the 1200 – Too many lives are lost on our roads. Remembering those lost on our roads and highways.
Monday 17
Protecting every life – Care for vulnerable road users.
Tuesday 18
Take the Pledge – Lead the way – Lead the pledge to drive so others survive - use the link https://www.roadsafetyweek.net.au/ individually or as a team take the pledge and sign to ‘Drive So Others Survive’ and put on display.
I pledge to drive as if my loved ones are on the road ahead.
I will remove all distractions and never use my mobile phone while driving.
I will not put other people at risk by speeding, driving while tired or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
I will protect all vulnerable road users, especially those whose job places them in harm’s way,
by slowing down and giving them the space they need to be safe.
Wednesday 19
Move over, slow down – Emergency vehicle – Protecting those who protect us by slowing down and giving the space they need to stay safe.
Thursday 20
Save lives – Slow Down – Reflecting the UN Road Safety Week theme “Speed”
Friday 21
Regional communities count – Drive so others survive in the country and city.
Saturday 22

Lead the Way and take the pledge to ‘drive so others survive’.
Road Safety is everyone’s business.
Painted traffic islands
Crossing a painted traffic island with a single continuous line
You can drive on a painted traffic island that is surrounded by a single continuous line for up to 50m to:
- enter or leave the road
- enter a turning lane that begins immediately after the island.
You can also drive on a painted island to safely overtake a cyclist.
You must not drive on a painted traffic island if the island:
- is surrounded by double continuous lines
- separates traffic flowing in the same direction—like where an onramp merges onto a motorway.
